The Paperless Classroom with GAfE AddOns, siteMaestro & Doctopus
Whitney Baker www.MrBakerEducator.com
Where to put the amazing, digital artifacts your students are creating, or showcase weekly blogs, podcasts, photo galleries, and much, much more? Harness the power of Google Apps for Education AddOns and provide your students with personalized containers and displays of their achievement with siteMaestro and Google Sites. Create, disseminate, monitor and assess student tasks and challenges all from Google Drive using Doctopus & Goobric. Do all of these things in an orderly, efficient way that you may never have thought possible. Say goodbye to the solo teacher audience, paper, binders, and hello to community audiences and more time for the stuff that really counts! Whitney has been running a paperless classroom since attending his first GAfE Summit at ISKL in 2013. Joining Google+ Communities and diving in headfirst, Whitney has found ways to integrate and use New Vision Cloud Lab Tools the way they were meant to assist the learning and instruction of both students and teachers. Asked to present in the technology strand at EARCOS 2015 but unable to attend, he is delighted to be a part of the DEEP Learning Team for their inaugural visit to Malaysia. |

DEEP Dives
* PLEASE NOTE while not a must, better use of time will be made if participants arrive with a sheet containing student names and their GAFE email addresses. These 'rosters' lay the foundation for the use of both siteMaestro and Doctopus.
* PLEASE BRING earbuds / headphones: during the DEEP Dives many different videos may be selected and watched by participants; please help us avoid "dueling videos".
"I'm not going to reinvent the wheel with slides and videos. A number of amazing educators and Google Certified Teachers & Trainers have created pointed, easy to follow videos and step-by-step instructions to assist you in setting up these amazing tools and AddOns." Links to these resources have been curated and outlined below, many of which are found on the New Visions Cloud Lab site.

Takeaway Projects
"When I first began with my paperless classroom, I focused on setting up a single class in Doctopus, distributing a single assignment and attaching a rubric to it. From there, I was able to quickly set up all of my classes in Doctopus and easily set up and distribute multiple assignments and rubrics. Once I became very comfortable and familiar with Doctopus, its folder structure, and the use of Goobric, I set to work on creating an ePortfolio Template for my grade 9 health courses and adopting siteMaestro for Google site management."
You now have the tools, support and resources necessary to set up and use Doctopus next week - or create that ePortoflio template for next term! Please fill out the following Google Form in an effort to support and inform our group as to what your Takeaway Project will be next week, or in the very near future.
